About Popling
People who are a particular kind of lazy have ideas about how to get their work done without working. That's how Popling was born. Instead of studing Spanish, I sat around thinking about how to learn the thousands of words I'd need to know to even have a chance at learning the finer points of the language.
The thought process went something like this:
- I'm in front of my computer all day.
- What if my computer showed me a flash card every few minutes?
- Hmmm... 8 hours, 5 minuites between cards = 96 cards.
- Anyone could learn anything with this!
The idea lay dormant until my girlfriend and I were invited to an increadibly fun wedding in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. We went to the hot springs, watched the most impressive fireworks display ever (it started at 2am and lasted until 5am), ate great food and picked up some Spanish. Hobbling along on a few basic phrases (Cervsa por favor!) just wasn't cutting it though, so when we came back, I started working on the site.
So far, it's working out really well. My next trip to Mexico was much easier after using Popling to learn numbers and basic words. To be honest though, I'd have to say I've learned more about the languages PHP, Javascript and MySQL than Spanish. :D
